Tycho Live @ Magic Stick Detroit – Link

It’s been nice being home this weekend after the past couple weeks on the road. PackardPlantz was kind enough to post up some video from the Detroit show (see above). I’ve been using Vidvox’s VDMX for the live visuals. VDMX is an incredibly powerful, modular, realtime video app for OS X. It employs Apple CoreImage to leverage the GPU directly and the performance is pretty amazing. It can handle full HD video with multiple layers of QC effects running over three decks with no problems. For this trip I brought along the brand new Vestax VCM-600 (pictured below) which I’ve really enjoyed working with.

After my set I had the honor of doing live visuals for Telefon Tel Aviv which was really an amazing experience to say the least (see video below or click here to view). Will Calcutt shot the video with a Canon 5D MKII and it looks pretty amazing. He showed me some other shots he got of Matthew Dear’s DEMF closing set which really showed off the range of the camera. I was pretty much sold after seeing those, unfortunately he hasn’t posted them yet. Suffices to say, the 5D MKII is the strong frontrunner for HD-capable DSLR’s in my book right now.

Just want to say thanks again for everyone who made it out to the Tampa, Detroit, and Toronto shows. I had a blast playing and hope to be back soon. You can find a few more videos on Youtube here: Tycho Detroit Videos

Man, I don’t even know what to say of your music it’s so fucking amazing I’ve been listen it for years and I just feel like I could go with it forever, I just hope one day I can leave my boring job behind and live like you do. I hope to see you in Tokyo one day! till there I anxiously wait for your new album. All the best man you deserve it!

Scott, that first song sounded great. Can’t wait for the new album. I was way too excited when you released “The Daydream” single, but you’ve been keeping us waiting for too long.

I got one big issue though. You have to release the new album on vinyl. FULL album tough. I buy vinyl not so much because of the sound quality but for the graphics. It’s way better to appreciate an album’s artwork on 12″ x 12″ it’s like having a poster right there.

Anyways, the point it that I bet you’re new album cover is going to rule and I’d rather own it on vinyl.

  5. Scott says:

    Caco-
Sorry for the delay, it’s hard to keep on top of the design stuff and music all at once, so unfortunately both get slowed down.

But don’t worry, all of the future releases that are planned (including the new album) will be on vinyl. There’s also a 12″ coming in July which will feature that new song.

So what does a Tycho show look like from your end Scott? Are you creating live music or visuals while you perform, or are you playing back pre-recorded or pre-designed material.

I’d love to be able to see one of your shows, if you come to Seattle again.

    Cheers.

can’t wait for that full vinyl release…whoop whoop!

    Hey Scott,
Really happy to see some videos of your work, as a VJ myself I’d love to see a screenshot of how you layout your VDMX ๐Ÿ˜‰ Every user is so different in setup, always an interesting point. I see you’re a big fan of the kaleidascope effect! Works well with your vintage style. Do you slave Ableton loops to trigger VDMX loops or prefer to sync the effects to the audio via the built-in mic (as I do)… so many questions ๐Ÿ™‚
Would love to have you tour Australia some time, were a fair distance from you but I know you’d be well received. Also a big big fan of Ghostly Internationals The Sight below.. so bring him along too ๐Ÿ˜‰
