Valhalla: Sweetgrass Productions

Over the past few years the creativity and aesthetic of the ski movie has reached exciting new levels. Whether you’re remised about it or not, the days of the Warren Miller lifestyle film are quickly fading, if not already gone. Studios like Sweetgrass Productions, Sherpas Cinema, Teton Gravity Research, and Solomon Freeski TV – among others – have redefined the genre with next level editing, production and storytelling.

Presented here is the teaser for Valhalla, a Sweetgrass Productions film set to be released in Fall of this year. I love the aesthetic they’ve created, and can’t wait to see the full movie if this is any indication of how it might turn out.

The quality of so many ski/snowboard movies has gone up tremendously. As such, it’s pretty amazing to see the behind-the-scenes work that goes into the filming process.

On itunes there’s a free download of the making of The Art Of Flight. It’s really great… and actually frustrating to learn about how much time they DO NOT spend snowboarding. Always great to see the hard work that goes into those kinds of movies.

I’m a snowboarder, but thankfully due to the overall quality of stuff now, I’m just as thrilled to watch a good ski movie too. They’re all doing stuff that blows me away; doesn’t matter if it’s a board or skis.

@mg33 Of course, when I say ‘ski film’ I should really say ski and snowboard films. Valhalla looks as though it’s both ski and board, and many new films, like Sherpa Cinema’s ‘Into The Mind’ and TGR’s ‘The Dream Factory’ blend the two sports together. It’s pretty commonplace now.

I wonder if the spirit of the Good Dr. Leary was channeled to make this mind bending video…very psychedelic.

    Donovan maaaan. Far out.

Was “atheistic” supposed to be “aesthetic”? I had no idea snowsports was against God. (Sorry to be so pedantic… sometimes I can’t help myself.)

KF… yes, haha. Apologize for the error.
