Some of you that might read McSweeney’s lovely Believer Magazine(which my dad turned me onto) might already have this from last year’s music issue. Zach Condon aka Beirut put together a great track for the magazine which also does the Wolphin DVD series which features greats like Zach Galifianakis and i think David Cross. Venice is alil more lush and slower going than his Beirut music since he strips the track down to only him singing, a hypnotic synth melody, and muted horns. I first heard this track off a mix my DJ partner’s Worst Friend’s did last year and i had to have it by itself, they did an amazing podcast today for Ghostly International which includes Tycho’s The Disconnect. We sometimes see Zach at Macri Park Bar where we DJ at every Wednesday in Brooklyn, i’m always tempted to put the track on.

I’m assuming that the trippy trumpet in this song was sampled or recorded from the guy pictured above? Great song.
Holy shit, the Believer magazine is amazing!
Tom McCarthy speaks a strange truth.. cool!
(please pardon the language)
Wow this song is really nice…I’m not too big on the singing, but the electronic tones in this song are beautiful. This is supposed to be a significant departure from Beirut’s usually Eastern European sound. I want to check out the compilation this came out on, from the Believer. I’ll have to check out the mag too, it looks pretty cool.
Beirut is great, will be checking it out. I’m also an enormous fan of Zach Galifianakis so I’ll be checking out the DVD thing.
I love the videos that Beirut have of them playing in random locations in cities. Such a sweet concept. I almost prefer hearing his voice live instead of on album. It did take me a while to appreciate Beirut’s music but once I saw those videos, I understood what they were more or less about. They’re incredible.
Hey, I work for Wholphin! Awesome to see it mentioned on one of my favorite blogs. Nothing with David Cross (yet!) but the Zach G. thing is on Issue No. 2, it’s the first Derek & Simon short Bob Odenkirk directed.
Where can I get a copy of this song? I’m a fan of Beirut, and I really enjoy this.
Yeah I was looking for one too, there was a copy hosted on an Irish music blog, but the link doesn’t seem to work.

Well that came out of left field. I will be visiting Venice in a few weeks, I hope the real thing lives up to Zach’s version.
I ended up finding a copy. Just google the mp3 file name.
Fantastic tune.
