Vimeo iOS App

Just installed the new Vimeo app for iPhone (iPad and Android versions are apparently in development). Very impressive stuff, I have a feeling this will have me doing more video work on my iPhone. Of course, that wouldn’t be hard considering I never use the video functionality. It’s strange, when I bought the phone I justified it to some degree by telling myself “you’ll have an HD video camera in you pocket”. I then proceeded to never use it.

How much do you use your phone for video? Ever done any creative projects with it?

I used mine recently to record some of the abstract elements in a video I produced for ambient producer talkingmakesnosense.

Had to use it static though, the jello effect on the iPhone 4.0 camera is absolutely awful.

I’ve never used my iPhone’s video camera for anything creative. I’ve pretty much only used it when a co-worker’s doing something hilarious, or when my cat’s being a spaz.

  3. I’m afraid I abused it straight away (sorry)

  4. I use my Droid X for up to 720p HD video recording, I always capture a lot of stuff, but I never end up doing anything with it…the reason: to bring it into Ae or Pr turns things into a big project.

It’d be great if there was a decent editing suite in the app, but at the same time I wonder if the phone is even the right place to be doing that.

I do use the video mode a lot on my iphone, but I upload it to tumblr to give my girlfriend snippets of my life… Nothing artistic really, which is weird, considering how much I yearn to get a 5DmkII (or III, rather) and do some artistic videos with it… To be honest, I don’t think the vimeo app will change much to that. I already thought imovie was a bad idea on the iphone… I mean, it’s almost too small to read a blog post, and you’d want to do video editing? Crazy.

or maybe i’m just too used my 24″ dual screen set up and i’ve become a douche, i don’t know… 🙁

Love using my iPhone for documenting nights out with friends.

I’ve been disciplined to clips together the next day into one short movie and then archive it to watch it sometime in the distant future.

I made this using my iphone 4. Obviously it the eyes weren’t blanked out using the phone though.

    Enjoy.

I made quite a bit more videos when I first got my iPhone 4 than I do now. I have several videos that have never left my camera roll, so I hadn’t gotten them onto Vimeo before. I just tested out their new app’s mobile upload feature and put up this little all-iPhone shot/edited video from last fall:

Nice being able to use the app for uploads alone!

The Iphone is such a great tool…even though I’d rather be using a better cam, the fact is I don’t always have one with me, and I’ve been able to capture some beautiful things with it.

The quality even holds up well when being projected large. I have integrated footage like this I have shot into live video performances.

  13. I’ve been shooting some simple video portraits and editing them in the iOS version of iMovie to experiment. I’m excited to see what vimeo has to offer here, since my two biggest issues with that method of working is an inability to shuffle around audio in the same way you can video, and how much uploaders want to compress your movie before uploading.

Here’s a few examples of complete in phone videos. Shot, Edited and Uploaded from my iPhone 4
