Visual History: DTM

I usually like to present these posts in a factual tone, but it’s hard for me to be impartial when talking about [the original] DTM. Nowadays they run silhouette cars – merely skinned to resemble production vehicles [ie NASCAR]. Back then, the M3 you bought at the dealer was basically what these guys ran, and the series spawned a lot of my favorite cars. Seeing pictures of the 190e with all four wheels off the tarmac really rustles my jimmies. Enjoy!

Dang, the e30 M3 is one of my all time favorite cars. But, dang, when it’s done right, Merc’s 190E 2.3 16v takes the cake. That is such a HOT car.

My jimmies were rustled… The Alfa 155 was so impressive.

My sentiments exactly. If they had made a coupe, it’d be my favorite car of all time.

The Astra isn’t from the DTM but from the British touring car Championship at some point in the late 80s. You can see from the sponsor on the number and the fact it’s badged Vauxhall, not Opel.
It’s a pity you missed the Opel Calibra, I know it’s a little later than these but I always thought that it was the best looking car.

Hell yes! Thank you for pointing out the major flaw in most so called “stock” car races! Gimme a stock BMW E series NOW!

Nit-picking but the ’92 Morris Longhurst “Benson & Hedges” BMW is actually racing in Wellington, New Zealand with ATCC cars in that photo but to be fair it was probably raced in DTM and brought to Australia like their ’93 car – http://www.ten-tenths.com/forum/showthread.php?t=98823&page=8 .

I’d like to blow up the 3rd image from the top.
Does anyone know where I can source a 300dpi or print of it?

This one is not from my personal scans, so I’m afraid all I can do is direct to the board where I found it, perhaps someone there can point you in the right direction. Alot of these photos are jpegs of pngs of tiffs of scans for a sport most people don’t pay attention to, so I wish you the best of luck! Sorry!
