MyFonts released an iPhone version of their WhatTheFont identification tool last week. It has a very simple and easy to use interface. You basically just take a picture of a font, crop and upload it, and it will run the characters through a recognition database and give you possible identities for your mystery font. Works well so far (at least it was able to recognize Futura above), but it will be interesting to see how it does with some more challenging typefaces.

I’ve never had much luck with the browser-version of the service. nine out of ten times it doesn’t figure it out, unless you give it something extremely obvious
yeah I dunno…just grabbed it for my iphone and it couldn’t get the text reading “ISO50” from Scott’s Norther Lights poster correct. I’ll keep it in circulation though and keep testing it out.
Yeah I think it will get better as time goes on, could end up being really useful. It’s nice to have a dedicated type app regardless. Good ammunition against boredom during type class~
i just got this. it worked well for a poster. but it couldn’t get this window sign due to the reflection. overall, i think this is extremely useful. it even links you to what font it is in safari.
Cool in a way, but it kind of takes the fun from fond finding away if you think about it.

I use Futura Medium in my own blog. It’s a purdy font. Sadly, not everyone has it. But since it’s in my blog, it should be mandatory world wide that everyone has it.
