Yours Tru.ly

Yours Truly is a sort of video collective out of San Francisco who’s mission statement is to “discover and document” the bands and artists that inspire them (link to their full mission statement). They essentially craft short films about interesting bands; some are in-studio alternate takes of songs, others are live footage interspersed with interviews. All are thoroughly engrossing a must watch for fans of any of the bands they cover or anyone wanting to discover new music.

My favorite short of theirs has to be the Toro Y Moi in-studio of him recreating an instrumental version of You Hid from his last full length (see video below). Hearing the song in this new way was really something to behold; I have to say I’m partial to this version now. Another highlight is a session they taped of The Morning Benders. They filled up a studio with a bunch of local musicians and recorded a version of Excuses; the result is incredible and once again rivals the album version. Check both videos out below and check out a ton more at Yourstru.ly (do URLs get better than that?).

Scott. I recently discovered the site (like two weeks ago).
I love Way Back Wednedays. And the 3:16 Sessions are genius (especially the first session with J.Cole). Have you listen to DJ Nuts Tribute MIX to Arthur Verocai? – I’ve only gotten halfway throught it…since it is over 60 or 70 minutes…but what I’ve heard so far has been dope.

SO glad someone took the initiative to convert the audio from the Toro y Moi track (link is in the comments of the original video post on YT). This version has replaced the original in our daily playlist and seriously gets me excited about hearing some new tracks in this “real instrument” style.

  7. That older fellow looked a lot like MCA from Beastie Boys in the Morning Benders Video.

  9. blushing like crazy over here. Can someone give me some frozen peas?

Thanks so much for checking out the site and watching/listening to our stuff. We are really new and we really mean it and to be mentioned by someone yours truly respects as much as Scott is pretty incredible.

Ps, the engineer for the Morning Benders video was Nic Pope. He’s the man.

This Toro Y Moi version just sounds like the Beach Boys. I like it, but there’s MAD Beach Boys influence in there, or at least Brian Wilson. Please post more videos!

  11. Yea I agree totally with that!
